“NEITHER HUNGER, NEITHER THIRSTY”

“NEITHER HUNGER, NEITHER THIRSTY”

“Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger; and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
(John 6:35)

A crowd surrounded JESUS. The day before, they wanted to proclaim him king because he had provided them with food. But He had withdrawn to a lonely place in the mountains, since no one had the right to confer such a place on Him. Furthermore, the motives of these people were doubtful: what they really wanted was the daily food. Then he said to them: “Work not for the food that perishes, but for the food that remains to eternal life,” and added that they should believe in the One whom the Father had sent. (John 6: 27-29)

The intention of the crowd was also to see more miracles. Then JESUS had an answer for them too and declared, “I am the bread of life,” and showed them that He could meet their spiritual needs forever. Humanity has both material and spiritual needs. However, as long as people live their lives without a real relationship with GOD, they will not be “alive” in the true sense of the word.

Something will be missing internally; and there is a thirst that nothing in the world can quench. Whoever approaches the LORD and surrenders to Him gets the answer to all kinds of needs and questions. All that GOD has said and done is the light that promotes and increases the understanding of the believer. All his moral perfection becomes spiritual food for those who love him.
And the one who loves him will never be hungry or thirsty again.

Dear LORD, quench my spirit’s thirst with the wonderful truths we find in Your Holy Scriptures. Satisfy my hunger for faith, giving me a grateful heart for the blessings that you put in my life every day and for the mercy you grant me, even when being imperfect, you do not abandon me and always free me from all evil. In the name of Jesus. Amen and amen.
