“POWER TO INFLUENCE”

“He who is good, from the goodness that he treasures in the heart produces good; but he who is evil, from his evil produces evil, because the mouth speaks of what abounds in the heart.”
(Luke 6:45)

Although our circles of influence vary in size, we all have the power to influence others for better or for worse. Daniel did not intend to impress or influence others, but some of his personality affected all who had contact with him (Daniel 1:21), from the humblest servants to empire kings.

What made this young man distinguish was his commitment to his convictions. He believed in the absolute truth of the Scriptures. When he was taken to Babylon, he proposed not to be contaminated with the king’s food, because he knew that eating meat offered to idols was prohibited by the Mosaic law. It was Daniel’s convictions, not his surroundings, that determined his behavior.

Our world offers a multitude of ways to compromise on what we know is right, but if we decide to follow our convictions, we can also stand firm in obedience to GOD. Although this incredulous world can make fun of our values and lifestyle, their respect for us decreases when we hesitate and yield to temptations. And the worst part is that our testimony as followers of Christ is destroyed.

The conviction as to the truth of GOD is like an anchor. When the winds of opinion blow, and the waves of temptation hit us, we can know with certainty the correct way to respond. Let us not hesitate in obedience to the LORD. The firm position in defense of the right can powerfully influence others. The conviction as to the truth of GOD is like an anchor.

Beloved LORD, thank you for Your Word. Let us be carried by Your truth and Your guidance, leave a positive mark on all those with whom we have contact, this and every day. In the name of JESUS. Amen and amen.
