“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love; and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”
(1 John 4:16)
When man tries to define GOD, he generally does it in human terms, conceiving it according to the selfish passions of his heart, but when John proclaims “GOD is love”, he is making a statement of the character of GOD, because it is the most important of its attributes: love.
The Bible shows us the most extraordinary manifestations of God’s love for his people, in Hosea 11: 1-2 he said: “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and from Egypt I called my son. The more I called them, the more they moved away from my presence. ” Here the prophet sweetly shows the deepest and most intimate mind and thoughts of the heart of GOD.
The prophet goes on to say: “With all that I taught Ephraim to walk, taking him by the arms; and he did not know that I was taking care of him. With human ropes I attracted them, with love ropes; … and I put food before them” . (Hosea 11: 3-4).
He describes the image of a selfless and loving father who takes care of his son during those helpless early years, taking him by the arms and helping him in his first steps. What affection, delivery, care and affection. These manifestations of love were sealed in John 3:16 which says: “For God so loved the world, that he has given his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not be lost, but have eternal life” .
Love is surrender and GOD gave a sacrifice to his Only Son so that we, who put faith in Him, be all eternity in his presence. This is an amazing love, and it is we who decide to enjoy that love or reject it, and yet, GOD keeps calling us and all we have to do is accept his love in the person of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Beloved FATHER, thank you because you have taken us in your arms and on your shoulders you have taken care of us. What a perfect and sublime love is what you give. In the name of JESÚS. Amen and Amen.
